The Consumers Council of Canada wishes to extend its congratulations to Chris Ballard upon his election to the Ontario Legislature on June 12.
“The voters in Newmarket-Aurora have elected an experienced advocate for consumer rights,” said Council President Aubrey LeBlanc. “The whole of the community of people concerned for the protection of consumer rights should welcome Chris’s election because of his long experience with consumer issues.”
Ballard was a member of the board of directors of the Council until resigning his position to pursue a seat in the Ontario legislature. The Council is a non-partisan and non-profit voluntary organization representing consumers to government and business.
“It is an amazing coincidence that the Ontario election was conducted on the day of the Council’s annual general meeting in Toronto,” said LeBlanc. “This past year has been a busy one for the Council, because of the active consumer protection agendas, in particular, in Ontario and at the national level.
“Over the past year, the Council was heartened by the non-partisan efforts to create greater consumer protection being made in the Ontario legislature and in Ottawa. The Council hopes to see more of this in the future, and to see a growing acknowledgement by business and government of the benefits of achieving higher quality consumer representation in regulatory processes, standards development and business self-regulatory activity.
“Nothing boosts the economy like respecting and delighting consumers. A positive, outward focused and innovative approaches to serving consumers is the surest way to achieve a win-win for both buyers and sellers of products and services in Canada and globally.”
