SUMMARY:Consultation on Review of Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act
DESCRIPTION:Deadline to share views with the Council\nThe Ontario government says it wants to improve its Consumer Protection Act (CPA). Consumers Council of Canada plans to respond to the government’s call for consultation on how to improve consumer protection in Ontario.\nThe CPA governs most retail transactions by consumers – from buying furniture in a store, to shopping online, to renovating a home. The CPA is supposed to support a fair marketplace where consumers make their choices free of unfair business practices. It sets rules about in-store sales, written contracts, online purchases, remedies for consumers and consequences for retailers that don’t follow the rules.\nThe CPA has not been fully reviewed for more than 15 years.\nOntario residents are urged to share their views with the Council about how to improve the CPA. Please use the general inquiry form on the Council’s website to submit comments ( https://consumerscouncil.com/about-us/contact-us/make-a-general-inquiry/ ) before January 18, 2021.\nOr  submit your views directly to the Ontario government ( https://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view_posting.jsp;jsessionid=nzK11Zsy6eEN7iIYJRrdYhl?language=en&postingId=35387 ).\n
